TYWO welcomes the ceremonial US Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Herald Trumpets, directed by Sergeant Major Bramwell Smith III. In this, the official celebration of TYWO's 20th anniversary, we bring together a whole regiment of TYWO Alumni as we proudly present the première of a fanfare commissioned from TYWO alumnus Rob Teehan, in a sparkling tribute to TYWO musicians past, present and future.

On October 10, 1920, Appleby Matthews conducted the first public performance of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, which did not include the yet-to-be discovered planet Pluto. On August 24, 2006, the International Astronomical Union passed a new definition of Pluto that excludes it as a planet. Sometimes things just work out for the best, and on May 13, 2011 the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra will present a performance of the complete work (sans Pluto), scored specifically for wind ensemble and chorus

Carnegie Hall, New York City

To accent the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra’s
20th Anniversary, the ensemble will return to the U.S. for a
performance tour of New York City. With an invitation extended once again by Peter Tiboris of Mid-America Productions, the anniversary tour will be highlighted by a performance of the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra onstage at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall, as part of the Ensemble Spotlight Series. The Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra is the only Canadian youth wind ensemble in the history of Carnegie Hall to have formally performed in concert on its stage.
